: A funeral service for Wilma Jean Vanwy, 84 of Newark will be held Monday October 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor David Moody officiating. Burial will be Wilson Cemetery.
Mrs. Vanwy died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 17, 1926 in Sapula, Oklahoma to the late Ralph Emerson and Emma Jane (Brumley) Hanna.
A Newark resident since 1946. She was a member of the Westside Chapel, Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was active in the church missionary work and a member and former leader of the church choir. She enjoyed singing in various glee clubs and choirs including Mrs. Selfâ??s choral group. Many enjoyable hours were spent in church and singing. She was employed for a number of years as a cosmetologist for Ella Maeâ??s Beauty Salon on the north side of the square.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean (Gregory P.) Webster of Caseyville, IL.; grandchildren, Heather Jean (Justin) Sims of New Athens, IL. Gregory E. (Sarah) Webster of Evansville, IN.; great grandchildren, Maddie Webster and Nate Webster; several nieces and nephews including, Sue Ann Campbell of Newark, Jean Wetzel of Newark, Carolyn Mitchell of FL.; cousins, Geraldine Lawrence of OK., Betty Jean Snodgrass of W. VA. and missed by numerous friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Donald G. Vanwy, January 4, 1997; two sisters, Adah Ellen Hanna, Mary Adah Hanna, three brothers, Donald Hanna, Ralph E, Hanna, Jr. and John Hanna.
Calling hours will be observed Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
