Obituary

Wilma Anne (Cline) Babcock of Fallsburg, Ohio, 92, made her final turn on her long journey home on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Wilma lived a full life and filled it with love. Born May 3, 1932, she was reared near Woodsfield, Ohio, one of ten children, to the late Alonzo and Arrena (Highman) Cline.  She graduated from Woodsfield High School in 1949 and moved to Fallsburg, fell in love with Jack, and only left for a few years to live in Charleston, South Carolina, while Jack was in the Navy.

Wilma was a devoted spouse to her husband Donald "Jack" Babcock, and a photo of him brought a smile to her face until the end.  Together, they raised four children, Ronald, Barbara, Beverly, and Deborah.  Wilma always took excellent care of her family.

She was a happy person and a breast cancer survivor. Wilma liked going square dancing and to local county fairs with Jack. She enjoyed watching and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball teams. Wilma worked at Fallsburg and Union school as a cook and C & I Restaurant in Fallsburg. She always took care to get her hair set on Fridays when she went into town for the groceries.

One of Wilma's favorite activities was keeping her neighbors informed by making calls about important events to friends and loved ones around Fallsburg. Most of her reports were usually true.  Wilma was curious and loved to tell stories.

She was kind and loved her community. Wilma always found time to help, whether it was at the Fallsbury Township polls at election time, or with a loved one, like her mother-in-law Annabelle.  She loved her Lord and her church, the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Wilma is survived by a son, Ronald (Patricia) Babcock of Newark; three daughters, Barbara Wills of Apple Valley, Beverly "Barri" Biggs and Deborah "Debbie" Stottler, both of Granville; eight grandchildren, Carmen, Ryan, Kristopher, Korey, Justin, Kerri, Derek, and Erin; fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the love of her life, Donald "Jack" Babcock whom she married May 10, 1950, and who died April 26, 2000; six brothers, Denzil, Robert, Hilton, Herbert, Eddie, and Kenneth Cline; three sisters, Grethel Shafer, Dorothy Fink, Jean Ambrose, and a son-in-law, Mike Wills.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful caregivers and Hospice team who provided support and care for Wilma the past four plus years. Without their help, the family would not have been able to navigate this journey and keep her in the comfort of her home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055 or Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.

Friends and family may call Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 10am-11:30am at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil and Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:30am with Pastor Dennis Evans officiating.

Wilma will be laid to rest beside her husband, Donald "Jack" Babcock, in Fallsburg Cemetery.

After the services, please join the family at the Rocky Fork Church of God fellowship hall, 13717 Pinewood Trail NE, Newark, OH 43055 for a time of food and fellowship.
