William D. "Bill" Shephard, 91, of Zanesville, Ohio died Thursday afternoon, December 27, 2018 at Clay Gardens Place in Zanesville.

Born August 28, 1927 in Licking County, Ohio he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Eva Josephine (Simpson) Shepherd. Mr. Shephard proudly served our country for nearly 40 years in the U. S. Air Force.  Later he served in the Air National Guard.  He was Christian by faith and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. "Bill" was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and raising bird dogs.  He also enjoyed bowling and golfing.  He was also involved in mentoring and helping children to become responsible adults.

Surviving are two sisters, Lottie Landaker of Dresden and Nina June Shephard of Zanesville; a brother, Jackie (Shirley) Shepherd of Dresden; six grandchildren, Sherril Williams, Gina (David) Wilson, Donna (Brian) Wood, Donald (Chris) Stockton, Karen (Art) Ames and Randy Wilson. Also surviving are several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Christy House and Robbie Johns.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae (McCurry) Shephard whom his married in 1952 and who died in 1999; four children, Geraldine, Mary, Melba and Alice; a grandson, Randy Stockton; seven sisters and two brothers.

There will be no public calling hours.

Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00pm Monday, December 31, 2018 at Frazeysburg Cemetery. Wakatomika Post 6139, VFW will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
