Funeral services for William H. Koppert, Jr., 87 of Newark will be held Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church 88 N. Fifth Street with the Revs. Barbara Sholis, Mark Chow and Charles Rader officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.Mr. Koppert died Monday May 12, 2008 at the Arlington Nursing Home. He was born July 27, 1920 in Perryton to the late William H. and Sarah Edith (Reeder) Koppert, Sr.He retired in 1983 with 23 years service from State Farm Insurance as an auto underwriter supervisor. He also was a charter CPCU property casualty underwriter. He had also been employed 20 years with Owens Corning Fiberglas as a safety officer and prior to that Ohio Power Co.He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 64 years. He had sang in the choir for 50 years, he had served as superintendent and teacher in Sunday School, a member of finance and pastor/parish committees, and Candlelighters. He was a member of Toastmaster International, Habitat for Humanity, had served as member and president of the Heath Board of Education and as a 4H advisor. He enjoyed his family and traveling.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eve (Stanley) Koppert, whom he married April 9, 1943; daughters, Sharon R. Koppert of Heath, Laura S. (Bob) Skidmore of Newark; son, Rev. William S. (Julie) Koppert of Kenton, Ohio; sister, Ruth Roderick of Clearwater, FL.; grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) Bowman of Newark, Cheri Wade of Newark, Elizabeth (David) Marshall of Reynoldsburg, Andrew (Carrie) Koppert of Columbus; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Turner in 1992; sister, Naomi Williams and two infant sisters and an infant brother.Calling hours will be observed Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street and Thursday one hour before services at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church 88 N.
