Obituary

William A. "Bill" Cockerill, 85, of Dresden, Ohio, formerly of Newark, died Thursday morning, October 24, 2013 at Willow Haven Nursing Home in Zanesville.
Born November 20, 1927 in Buchanan, West Virginia he was a son of the late James B. and Cora (Ernest) Cockerill and he was an Army veteran having served during World War II. Mr. Cockerill was a former coal miner and construction worker working out of Local 423 Laborers Union of Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the American Legion Post at Hanover and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are two sons, Gary L. (Lynn) Cockerill of Dresden and Tim Cockerill of Newark; two daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Wolfe and Judy Cockerill, both of Newark; two step-children, Laura (Dean) Wallace of Newark and Chuck (Darlene) Boyer of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Matt (Sara) Cockerill and Sandy Cockerill, both of Dresden, Judy (Donnie) Morrison of Newark and Jodi (Bryan) Kelly of South Carolina; six step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Anna Jackson of Barberton, Ohio, Janet Jordan of West Virginia and Kate Wilmoth of Arizona; one brother, George Cockerill of Michigan; his former wife, Betty Cockerill of Newark and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Boyer) Cockerill; one sister and three brothers.
Calling hours will be from 4pm to 6pm Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, October 28, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Inboden officiating. Burial will be in Chalfant's Church Cemetery.
