NEWARK: A graveside service for Willard P. ?Bud? Hardy, 87, of Newark, will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Smith Chapel Cemetery with Josh Fairchild officiating. Bud passed away Tuesday morning at Flint Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Newark. He was born April 9, 1922 in Fredericksburg, Ohio to the late Jesse and Ethel (Tracey) Hardy. He proudly served his country in U.S. Army during World War II. He was captured in December 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge; he then spent 9 months as a prisoner of war. Bud?s military decorations included a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, a POW Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Bud retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1977 after serving as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of Moundbuilders Chapter # 16 of the American Ex-Prisoners of War. Bud was an avid wood worker and provided family and friends with many beautiful pieces. Survivors include his wife, Floann Ardrey (Noland) Hardy; a son, Jeffrey (Judy) Hardy; daughters, Hope Fairchild, DiAnne Hardy, Verocca (John) Morgan, and Tracey Hardy; a brother, Richard Hardy; and a sister, Roberta Warner; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bea and Nancy.
