A funeral service for Wilbur E. ?Gene? Boyd, 79 of Newark will be held Wednesday March 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Homes with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Boyd died Sunday March 11, 2007 at his residence. He was born May 13, 1927 in Licking County to the late Ray and Nancy (Priest) Boyd. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (James F.) Matheny of Newark; brother, Lester (Esther) Boyd of Hanover; sister, Betty (Frank) Rauck of Nashua, NH; grandchildren, Annette DuBoe of Newark, Charelle (Ali Doaya) Matheny of United Arab Emirates, James E. (Kristi Mohler) Matheny of Hebron; great-grandchildren, Megan DuBoe, Austin DuBoe, Manal Doaya, Saif Doaya, Mahra Doaya, Elijah Mohler, Kyla Blake, Brianna Matheny & Skyler Matheny. Mr. Boyd was a self-employed farmer and mason. He was a member of Newark Moose Lodge # 499 and an Army veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corp. In recent years he has enjoyed playing cards on the square with his friends.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers; Clarence Boyd, John Boyd, Earl Boyd and Willis Boyd. Calling hours will be observed Wednesday from noon till 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
