A funeral service for Ward Lemont Cullison, 75 of Thornville will be held Friday December 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor James Dennis and Reverend Jesse Cullison officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veteran Alliance. Mr. Cullison died Monday December 14, 2009 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 12, 1934 in Peoria, Illinois to the late Henry W. and Helen A. (Casey) Cullison. Mr. Cullison spent his childhood in the Utica area and graduated from Homer High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955- 57 with a term of service in Iceland. He owned and operated Quality Carpet Installation. He was a member of the White Chapel United Methodist Church, the Heath Sertoma, and helped organize the Serteens Club in the Jacksontown area. He was a member of the Thornville AMVETS Post and active in the Civil War Reenactments. He loved the time spent on his John Deere tractor on his farm. One of his greatest memories was sailing from Hawaii to San Diego on a ?Tiger Cruise? with his sons while they were serving in the U.S. Navy.His children and grandchildren were the highlights of his life. They include his daughter, Janet L. (Brian) Williams of Newark; sons, Douglas L. (Teresa) Cullison of Pueblo, CO., Jeffery A. (Linda) Cullison of Thornville; grandchildren, Megan Cullison, Ryan Cullison, Reese Chapin, Matthew Cullison, Nathaniel Cullison; four step-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Jeannine Murphy and her husband Jim of Hebron; special friend, Donna Baisden of Thornville; sister, Ellen (Ray) Klepinger of Worthington; sister-in-law, Sharon Thweatt of Nashville, TN., several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Karen Cullison, brothers, Jesse Cullison, Ronald Cullison and nephew, Frank Chambers.Calling hours will be observed Friday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
