A graveside service for Walter L. Hayes, 89 of Newark will be held at Wilson Cemetery on Saturday October 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Charles Mason officiating.

Mr. Hayes passed away Wednesday October 25, 2023 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born June 24, 1934 in Hitchens, KY to James T. and Goldie L. (Fannin) Hay.

Walter retired from Rockwell International in 1982. He was a member or Local #1037 UAW. He attended the Licking County Church of God. He and Beulah enjoyed taking many bus trips. He was an avid woodworker making numerous canes for individuals.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah M. (Ramey) Castle Hayes; daughters, Diane (James) Haines of Newark, Paula Hayes; sons, Douglas (Diana) Hayes of Bellaire, Robert Hayes of Cincinnati; step-son, Ernest (Barbara "Charlie") Castle of Newark; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews; special sister-in-law, Lou Crager of Clearfield, KY; close friend of fifty years, Burl "Dick" Ashcraft.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Hayes, Donny Hayes; grandson, Joshua Hayes; six sisters and brothers; step-daughter, Connie (Bill) Bolen.
