Obituary

Vivian M. Kurtz, 82, of Dresden, died at 6:35AM Saturday December 28, 2002 in Genesis Good Samaritan. She had been ill since Sunday December 22, 2002. Mrs. Kurtz was born June 6, 1920 in Columbus, a daughter of the late Lyman E. and Freda (Greenlee) Sells. A graduate of Columbus South High School and Ohio University, Mrs. Kurtz was a life long schoolteacher, teaching at Westview Elementary in the Zanesville City School District. She was a 49-year member, past Worthy Matron and 30 year secretary of OES Chapter 260 in Dresden until the chapter closed and she transferred to Olive Branch Chapter 251 in Duncan Falls. Mrs. Kurtz had been a member of the Coshocton Shrine, Shakespeare Reading Club and the Dresden Village Assoc and attended the Dresden U. Methodist Church. Surviving are her children, David (Marie) Kurtz of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Michael (Jeanine) Kurtz of Dresden, Bruce (Rhonda) Kurtz of Dresden, Mary Ann (Dave) Bethel of New Albany, eleven grandchildren, Janet (Nathan) Hoeft, Julie Kurtz, Gavin Kurtz, Derrick (Candi) Kurtz, Amy (Chris) Buck, Adam Kurtz, Danny Kurtz, Stephanie Hardesty, Derek McInerney, Chris Bethel and Stephanie Bethel, two great grandchildren Erica and Lucas Buck, and a brother Orland T. (Yvonne) Sells of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her husband Norbert A. Kurtz, whom she married December 14, 1943 on October 22, 1996; a brother Raymond Sells and a sister, Theora Golden. Friends may call 4PM-8PM Monday December 30, 2002 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home in Dresden, where services will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday with Dr. John J. Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery. Eastern Star services will be held at 8:00PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-Valley Endowment Fund; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
