NEWARK: Virgil W. Binckley, 85 of Newark passed away October 3, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Binckley was born April 17, 1925 in Hopewell to the late Charles A. and Sylvia A. (Crooks) Binckley. He was a 1943 graduate of Hopewell High School and served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Binckley was a member and for many years an elder at the Old Stone Church of Christ. He was a member of the Hanover V.F.W. Post 764, the American Quarter Horse Association, and an honorary member of the Licking Valley Alumni Association. He was a life time farmer and retired from Plumbers and Fitters Local 189 after 65 years of service. Mr. Binckley loved horses and showed on the Eastern Circuit with his favorite horse, P.D. Mountain. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alma M. (Evans) Binckley; a son, Virgil (Sandra) Binckley, Jr.; daughters, Virgie (Dan) Vaia and Mildred (Pete) Wilson, all of Newark; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, and a grandson.
Friends and family may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Jody Holland and Chuck Horsley officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Forks Cemetery, Gratiot.
