Obituary

Violet May Tanier Smythe King, 83, of Adamsville, died at 12:42AM Friday October 3, 2008 at her home. She was born October 11, 1924, a daughter of Carmen Beckstein and Harry Tanier in Napoleon, Ohio. As a teen ager, she moved to Attica to live with her grandmother. She married and started to raise a family and was quickly nick-named ?Posie?. The family moved to Dresden in 1950. Violet lived vibrantly through her family. She was full of energy and zest, working full time in her beauty shop at home, plus worked full time at the Bush Woolen Mill, Essex Wire in Zanesville and then was one of the first 18 employees at The Longaberger Company, retiring after 25 years of service. Violet was loved and admired by many and was baptized Sunday September 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church by Pastor Andrew Dennis. Her favorite pastime was watching the show choir ?J. G. Company?. Surviving are a brother, Donald (Doris) Tanier of Horton MI, sisters-in-law, Anne Smythe of Bellevue, OH, Evelyn (Jake) Hicks of Canton, OH; sons, Alvin Smythe of Coshocton, William Smythe of Dresden, Roy Dean (Rosemary Elder) Smythe of Amanda, Terry Smythe of Dresden; grandchildren, Jesse, Terry, Larry, Heidi and Sabrina Smythe, Renee (Kyle) Thorn, Kenny Smythe, April (George Conrad) Smythe, Larry (Lisa) Smythe, Dana (Tana) Smythe, Kim Smythe, Randy (Peggy) King, Jeff (Jackie) King, Lynn (Lance) Curtis, Janet (Larry) Christ, Kristin Rossiter, Kim Carpenter, Terri (Dave) DeVault, Warren (Sharon) Adams, Jeremy & Korey Bonk; great grand-children, Cortney and Dakota Thorn, Heather and Jason Smythe, Brody Smythe, Anna and Cameron Conrad, Luke and Tucker Smythe, Emily Smythe, Patrick, Payton, Paige and Preston Smythe, Kyle Smythe, Darrin and Dustin Ryan, Jacoby King, Ashley and Jamie DeVault, Aric, Austin and Amanda Adams, Amanda King, Aaron and Emily Christ, Caleb and Anna Rossiter; a special niece, Gladys (Jim) Ferrell; step-children, Louie (Debbie) King, Jim (Delores) King, Peg (Weldon) Adams, Sally (Danny) Bonk; several nieces and nephews, a variety of loving , caring friends and co-workers; her three loving pets, her bird Baby, her cat, Gizmo and her companion and guardian, Polly. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jesse Smythe, her second husband, Charles King, and her beloved daughter, Sharon Kaye Smythe. No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held at 1PM Tuesday October 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Dresden with Pastor Andrew Dennis and Rev. Mark A.. Combs officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Dresden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the J. G. Company at John Glenn High School, 13115 John Glenn Road, New Concord, OH 43762.
