Vernon L. ?Skip? Noland, 68, of Dresden, died unexpectedly Sunday December 9, 2007 of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Noland was born January 21, 1939 in Dresden, a son of the late P.G. & Ella M. Noland. He was a US Navy veteran and had been a mine foreman at Central Ohio Coal and Peabody Mines. For many years he was a truck driver for several companies including, Matlack, Able, PDQ and Moss Trucking in Frazeysburg, as well as doing mechanical work and driving for Carl Lane Trucking in Dresden. Mr. Noland was a member of Charles M. Mitchell Post #399 American Legion, Eagles Aerie #302; Dresden Lodge #103 F.&A.M. and was a Past Master, Amrou Grotto in Zanesville; and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dresden. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Surviving are his wife, Saundra S. (Wolford) Noland, whom he married July 29, 1961; a daughter, Tina (Dustin) Kuhn of Zanesville; granddaughter, Sandy Brown of Conesville; brothers and sisters, Maxine Lockhart of Mt. Vernon, Elsie Garrett of Dresden, Harley (Barb) Noland of Frazeysburg, Roy (Sandy) Noland of Dresden, Ronald (Martha) Noland of Dresden, John (Flo) Noland of Dresden, Judy Kay Wagner of Zanesville, Michael Noland of Conesville, Emma Poulson of Grove City, Donna Foley of Newark, Donald (Charlene) Noland of Hopewell; sister-in-law Orpha Noland of Trinway and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Lee Noland; brothers, Roger and Ricky Noland and Ralph Noland on October 5, 2007 and his father and mother-in-law, Charles & Zona Wolford. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-9PM Tuesday at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. American Legion and Masonic Services will be held beginning at 8:30PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Following Mr. Noland?s wishes, cremation will follow the visitation.
