Memorial services for Velma M. McClain, 86 of Newark are pending at this time.

Mrs. McClain passed away on December 19, 2023 at Altercare of Newark-South. She was born September 25, 1937 in VanAtta to Harold and Mildred (George) Wood.

Velma enjoyed gardening and canning her produce. She also spent time sewing and making crafts. Velma liked solving puzzle games including crosswords and word search games. When the children were in school she was an active room Mom and band Mom. She loved bird watching and her pet dogs especially Gracie. Velma devoted her life to her family. She worked especially hard to make every holiday special.

Survivors include her daughters, Beth McClain, Trisha (Bruce) Frey, all of Newark; a daughter in-law, Cindy McClain of Somerset; grandchildren, Madison Frey of London, England, Hayden Frey of Athens, Dusty (Tara) McClain of Heath; great-grandchildren, Micah, Josiah, Leah McClain; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Willard McClain; a son, Jeffrey McClain; siblings, Charline (Chuck) Braden, Irene (Orville) Presley, Sue (Don) Adams, Harold (Mary) Wood, Jr., George (Martha) Wood.
