Obituary

A Celebration Of Life Service for Steve Carter, 48 of Newark will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 18, 2006 at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark, with Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Carter passed away May 14, 2006 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born June 19, 1957 in Newark to the late Robert and Ida (Sheats) Carter. Mr. Carter was a 1976 graduate of Newark High School. He worked many years for Holophane Corporation and recently for Licking Memorial Hospital. Mr. Carter volunteered for the Newark High Athletic Boosters and was especially active in the Basketball and Football programs at Newark High. He also volunteered for the Salvation Army. Mr. Carter gave his life to the Lord at a young age. He was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he served with the catering ministry and on the ushers board. Survivors include his two loving daughters, Natalie Carter and Ashley Carter, both of Newark; brothers, Michael Nixon of California, Robert (Joyce) Carter of Cleveland, Charles Carter of Reno, NV., Jasper Carter, Phillip (Sue) Carter, and Patrick Carter (Lynn Byrd) all of Newark; sisters Gwendalyn Iheme of Springfield, Ruby Greene of Newark, Elaine Manning of Newark, Phyllis Carter of Toledo; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Ted Foster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Nixon, John Nixon, Mallery Nixon; and a brother in law, Joseph Manning. Friends may call Wednesday May 17, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
