A graveside service for Steven M. Athey, 71, of Newark will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Wilson Cemetery with Chaplain Mark Pierce officiating.

Steve passed away July 3, 2021 at Arlington Care Center in Newark. He was born May 31, 1950 in Newark to the late William P. Athey, Sr and Ruth Evelyn (Duff) Athey.

Steve attended Newark High School. He was a dedicated hard worker who worked several factory jobs and also performed maintenance and landscaping. He enjoyed fishing, target practicing, building models and mechanic work on vehicles. He had attended First Church of the Nazarene and Bible Way Baptist Church. Steve was also an avid Elvis fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Linda (Smith) Athey; a son, Chad Athey of Newark; daughter, Carrie Athey (Gregory) Wallis of Heath; loving grandchildren, Rebekah Salmans of Kansas, Brooklyn Wallis and Avery Wallis of Heath; his twin sister, Vicki Dodrill; sisters, Marlene (George) Lacknett, Darlene Athey and Charlene (Danny) Marmie; brothers, William P. Athey, Jr., Danny Athey, Fred (Jean) Athey, Kelvin Athey and Donald Athey; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Lila.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Athey Martin; and a brother, Douglas Athey.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Valerie G. and Megan B. with Hospice of Central Ohio for all of their special love and care. We couldn't have made it without them! We also would like to acknowledge Connie and Darryl Roundtree for their thoughts prayers and support. What wonderful friends! Additionally, a big thank you goes out to his best friend, Tony Belt. We want to thank him for everything he has done for Seve and our family. What a special friend!

In accordance with Steve's wishes there will be no calling hours.
