NEWARK: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Stephen C. Forgey, 56 of Newark at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bob Penhallurick, celebrant. Burial will be at Newark Memorial Gardens. Steve passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, August 12, 2009 at his home. He was born February 3, 1953 in El Paso, Texas to the late Edwin N. Forgey, Sr. and Clare M. (Cronin) Forgey. A graduate of Lakewood High School class of 1971, Steve was extremely proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army for seven years. He retired from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service where he worked as a network engineer. He attended St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church. Steve was an avid computer geek. In his retirement, Steve had found a real passion for cooking. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Betty (Fox) Forgey, whom he married March 18, 1972; a son, Donald Edwin Forgey of Newark; two daughters, Theresa Woodgeard of Newark, and Heather Forgey of Hanover; grandchildren, Miranda and Wyatt Woodgeard; brothers, Edwin N. (Laura) Forgey, Jr., of Tracy, Cal., James W. (Yael) Forgey of Fort Worth, Tex.; sisters, Marsha C. Hopeck of Reynoldsburg, Loretta K. (Gary ) Freeland of Albuquerque, N.Mex., Mary E. (James) McNulty and Carol A. (Mark) Wachter, both of Newark; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a son, Eric Stephen Forgey; and his mother and father in-law, Donald and Dolores Fox. Friends and family may visit 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark. A Christian wake service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
