A funeral service for Sidney A. Shoemaker, 81, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 11, 2004 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Reverend Barbara Sholis officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.Mr. Shoemaker died Thursday morning at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on March 17, 1923 in Newark to the late Harvey A. and Blanche (Larason) Shoemaker. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the Raccoon Valley Conservation Club, American Legion Post 85, he was very active in Zerger Hall Senior Center, assisting with newsletters, and the Thursday evening Domino Club, and attended the Saturday morning Men?s Bible Study at The First United Methodist Church.Mr. Shoemaker was a veteran of WWII, serving as a U.S. Navy CB's Carpenter's Mate Third Class in the South Pacific. Mr. Shoemaker is survived by: a daughter, Cyndi Warthen of Newark; a son, Larry (Robin) Shoemaker of Newark; four grandchildren, Bethany Warthen, Jennifer Warthen, Amy Warthen, and Matthew Shoemaker; a sister, Margaret Amerine of Whitehall; and brother in-law and sister in-law Velma and Lowell Baughman of Newark.In addition to his parents, Mr. Shoemaker was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Mildred O. (Shepherd) Shoemaker, whom he married September 11, 1946 and who died May 4, 2000; two brothers, Glen and Wayne Shoemaker; and one sister, Lillian Ritchey. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-4PM at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zerger Hall Senior Center and the Raccoon Valley Conservation Club; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
