Obituary

FRAZEYSBURG ? Shaun Robert Strahm, 55, of Virgil?s Hill, Nashport, Ohio, passed to his reward at 8:45am Friday, March 16, 2007 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio, after a courageous fight against cancer. Born February 16, 1952 in Bluffton, Ohio, he was the son of Robert E. Strahm of Nashport and the late Ethel (Barth) Strahm and was a 1970 graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School and Eastland Vocational School. He was also a 1972 graduate of Columbus Technical College and was manager of technical facilities at WCMH-TV, NBC Channel 4, Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Strahm was a member of the Perryton United Methodist Church. He was a hot air balloon pilot and his red, yellow and purple hot air balloon, Caitlin, often graced the skies of central Ohio. He gave many assemblies to elementary schools demonstrating the hot air balloon. Shaun was also a scuba diver and in his youth had been active in Boy Scouts of America. Shaun loved a good joke and loved to laugh. His laugh was contagious. He was known for giving people who sassed him inverted speech by picking them up, turning them upside down and shaking the change from their pockets. He liked X-Files, Bear In The Big Blue House and Emma Peel. He enjoyed going to Kirkersville to the Night of Fire. He enjoyed vacationing in Colorado, and drove up Pike?s Peak in his VW Rabbit, which he had just rebuilt the engine before the trip. His special love was for steam whistles and trains. His dream was to own a small train and have original train dining fare served in the dining cars. Surviving, in addition to his father, is his wife, Mary Ellen (McBride) Strahm, whom he married February 21, 1976; a sister, Roberta (Elmer) Halker of Pandora, Ohio; a niece, Kirsten (Girard) Halker-Kratz of Media, Pennsylvania; a nephew, Robert (Chrissy) Halker of Owensville, Ohio; a great niece Caroline Pearl Kratz and twin great nephews, Isaac and Brian Halker; a favorite cousin, Cindy Carter of Columbus, Ohio; aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many good friends. He also has his beloved feline survivors, Margaret, Funny Face, Martha and Elmer, Jr. and his special cat, Virgil. The hill on which Shaun lived is named in honor of Virgil. Waiting for Shaun to cross the Rainbow Bridge to see them again are special cats, Radar and Elmer and special dogs, Odie and Max. Shaun felt that the animals loved him and they surely went to heaven. The Reverend Roger Nichols will officiate at a private family service and Shaun?s body will be cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055, Homeward Bound Humane Society, 548 Dog Leg Road, Heath, Ohio 43056 or to the Animal Shelter Society, 1431 Serenity Drive, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
