Sharon Rose McCarty, 72, passed away on May 4, 2026, just one day before her 73rd birthday. She was born on May 5, 1963, in Newark, Ohio.
Sharon lived a life marked by faith, gentleness, and devotion to others. She resided in several places throughout her life, including Nashport, Ohio; Greenville, South Carolina; Hangzhou, China; and Detroit Michigan. The highlight of her life was the time she spent teaching in China, an experience that deeply reflected her heart for people and her calling to serve.
She had a deep love for sharing the good news of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her faith was the foundation of her life. Sharon will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering faithfulness, and the love she so freely gave to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jon Wilbur McCarty.
She is survived by her parents, Paul and Dona Dawson; her brothers, Sam Dawson (Carolyn) and Paul Dawson, Jr. (Pam); and her sister, Leah Watkins (Bruce).
Sharon is also survived by her children: Rebekah Genovese (Thomas); Jonathan McCarty (Laura); Timothy McCarty (Allison); and Michael McCarty (Logan). She was a beloved grandmother to Lydia and Vivian Genovese; Hendrix, Sylvia, Catherine, Caroline, and Max McCarty; as well as a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on May 8, 2026, at Inter-City Baptist Church in Allen Park, Michigan.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on May 9, 2026, at Irville Cemetery in Nashport, Ohio where Sharon will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jon.
Sharon was gentle. She was faithful. She was deeply loved.
She will be missed beyond words and remembered always.
