Obituary

Sgt. Bradley J. Harper USMC, 25, of Chesapeake, VA formerly of Dresden, was killed in action Wednesday August 3, 2005 during a combat operation in Iraq. Sgt. Harper was born November 1, 1979 in Zanesville. He was a 1998 graduate of Tri-Valley High School where he had played football. For several years, he had worked for the Longaberger Co. in landscaping and at the Fitness Center. Following graduation, he attended MATC and entered the US Marine Corps Reserves in January 1999. He received an Associates Degree from MATC and a Bachelors Degree from Ohio University both in Criminal Justice. Sgt. Harper enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserves on July 27, 1998 and completed recruit training at Parris Island, SC on April 9, 1999. After completing his MOS school in 29 Palms, CA he was assigned as a ground radio repairman to H&S Co, 3rd Bn, 25th Marines, 4th Marine Div Brookpark, OH. He transferred to Co A, 4th Assault Amphibian Bn Norfolk, VA on August 22, 2003. On January 4, 2005, his current unit was activated and he was deployed to Iraq on March 13, 2005. He moved to Virginia in 2003 and graduated from the Virginia Beach, VA Police Academy and was Sergeant of Arms of his graduating class. He served in the Oceanfront 2nd precinct in Virginia Beach. He was a member of North Terrace Church of Christ and American Legion Post #399 in Dresden. Surviving are his wife, Kendra, whom he married August 31, 2002; his parents, Steve and Janet (Mozena) Harper; a sister, Jennifer (Troy) Clements of Zanesville; brother, Daniel (Stori) Harper and their son Jarrett of Frazeysburg; mother in law, Carla (Guy) Brenamen of Fremont; father in law, Jeff Schiewe of Plymouth, IN; grandparents, Mildred Mozena of Adamsville, Gerald and Shirley Chapman of Bettsville, Norris and Joy Schiewe of Port Clinton, Sara Harper of McConnelsville; great grandmother, Ruth Graham of Frazeysburg; and his sisters in law, Lindsey and Courtney Schiewe both of Fremont. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Tom Mozena and Roy Harper. Friends may call 2-8PM Monday August 15, 2005 at the North Terrace Church of Christ, 1420 Brandywine Blvd, Zanesville, OH 43701. Funeral services will be held at the North Terrace Church of Christ on Tuesday August 16, 2005 at 1PM with Bill Meaige officiating. Burial will follow in Dresden Cemetery with full military honors.
