A funeral service for Sara M. Sunkel, 80 of Jacksontown will be held Monday October 29, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Homes with Rev. Jim Addy officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Mrs. Sunkel died Friday October 26, 2007 at her residence. She was born March 20, 1927 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Charles and Virginia (Foster) Elliott. Mrs. Sunkel was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member and secretary of Westside Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Mrs. Sunkel graduated in 1945 from Plainfield High School. She had won the State Spelling Bee Competition. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Rev. Ray Sunkel, whom she married December 23, 1951; children, Carol (Steve) Davis of Newark, Steven (Mary) Sunkel of Leitchfield, Ky., David (Aleta) Sunkel of Carroll, Sandy (Jeff) Lothes of Newark, John Sunkel of Jacksontown; brothers, Donald Elliott of West Lafayette, Richard (Janice) Elliott of Warsaw; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Newell, Betty Phillips, Grace Jacobs; two brothers, John Elliott, Alvin Elliott. Calling hours will be observed Sunday 3 to 6 p.m. at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
