Funeral services for Samuel J. Shannon, 64 of Johnstown will be held Thursday April 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Family of Faith Community Church, 975 Mt. Vernon Road with Pastor Curtis Martin officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens. Mr. Shannon died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born August 15, 1944 in Columbus to the late Carl E. and Alberta M. (Miller) Shannon. Mr. Shannon retired in May 2008 from the maintenance department of FCRMRDD Northeast School after 15 years service. He was a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local # 423 AFL-CIO. He was a member and deacon at the Family of Faith Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Shannon K. (Boothe) Shannon, whom he married November 7, 1998; children, Eric Shannon of Columbus, Kevin (Pam) Shannon of Gahanna, David (Chiree) McCain of Newark, Luke (Mandy) Clark of Cardington, Tina (Dewayne) Proffit of Summerton, SC, Becky Pelletier and Bryan of St. Louisville; brother, Charles L. (Rebecca) Shannon of Westerville; nieces, Christine Falstick and Cheryl Collins of Westerville; great nieces Caitlynn Collins and Cassidy Collins of Westerville; 13 grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jessie (Fromm) Shannon in 1996 and son, Brian Shannon in 1966. Calling hours will be observed Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
