A funeral service for Ruth L. Swinehart, 101 of Newark will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Cory Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville, OH.
Ruth was born July 20, 1922, in Thornville, OH to the late Arthur and Nellie (Bope) Swinehart.
She was a graduate of Thornville High School class of 1940 . She was employed for about 13 years at the S. S. Kresge & Co. lunch counter. For the following 30 years she worked in the office of Dr. W.E. Myers. During her retirement she worked in the office of Dr. D. Mark Stewart.
Ruth was a member for over 60 years of the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority. A member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 60 years; she was active in the Women of ELCA, sang in the church choir and prepared the elements for Holy Communion.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Sally (Ken) Nordenbrock, Jane (Mike) Yoder, Mary (Mike) Manolofff, Richard (Donna) Zartman, Valerie (Jim) Kaler, Paul (Alicia) Swisher, II,; nineteen great nieces and nephews; twenty one great-great nieces and nephews; special friends, Lori (Don) Blosser and family, Tim Binckley (Marcia Tidyman); and many other friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Zartman, Helen Ellinger, Gladys Swinehart, Creta Lusch, Dororthy Swinehart, Miriam Swisher; nephews, Steve Zartman, Donald Lusch and Timothy Swisher; niece, Carole Schwartz; brother-in-law, Paul Swisher; an special friend, Maxine Binckley; and many other loved ones.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Evangelical Church, 67 N. 5th Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
