Obituary

A funeral service for Ruth I. Rettig, 79, of Newark will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, at the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Holgate, Ohio with Pastor Jane Hillman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery. Mrs. Rettig was born July 29, 1925 in West Salem, Ohio to the late Carl and Hattie (Zernstein) Imhof. She was a graduate of Tiffin High School and Heidelberg College. She worked as a teacher in the Port Washington, Atwood, and Wooster City Schools. She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. Mrs. Rettig is survived by two daughters; Judy (Jerry) Goodman of Newark, Beth (David) Goebels of North Olmstead, Ohio; three sons, Timothy (Chris) Rettig of Wooster, Arthur (Debra) Rettig of Atwood, IL., and Daniel (Sherrie) Rettig of Wooster; a sister Pauline (Paul) Norris of Bolivar, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 8great-grandchildren In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rettig was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Rettig, whom she married June 20, 1948, and who died January 25, 1999; a brother, Fred Imhof; and two sisters, Joyce Kulhanek, and Esther Imhof. Friends may call from 1-2 PM on Saturday at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio, or to the St. Johns United Church of Christ Building Fund, Newark. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
