FRAZEYSBURG ? Ruth Cullison Gongwer, 92, of Columbus, Ohio, died at 6:30am Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Wesley Glen Health Center in Columbus. Born August 9, 1911 in Perryton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jerry M. and Lillie (Wright) Cullison and was a 1928 graduate of Hanover High School. She was also a graduate of Ohio University majoring in education and she received her Master?s degree from Columbia University. Mrs. Gongwer was an elementary teacher for 47 years having taught in Frazeysburg and Licking County for seven years and in the Columbus City Schools for 40 years. She was a member of the Perryton United Methodist Church and the Kappa Phi Sorority at Ohio University. Surviving are many close friends, including her neighbor, Donald Spriggs of Columbus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Russell Gongwer, whom she married December 26, 1947 and who died November 8, 1990; a brother, Ralph Cullison and a sister, Dorothy Cullison Hitchcock. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the services, which will be at 1:00pm Friday, March 26, 2004 at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 Third Street, Frazeysburg, Ohio with the Rev. Roger Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Perryton Cemetery.
