Russell L. Wagner, 63, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Thursday morning, November 30, 2017 in the emergency room of Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born September 6, 1954 in Zanesville he was the son of William H. and Ada M. (Prince) Wagner of Frazeysburg and was a 1972 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. Russell retired in 2009 from the Kroger Company where he was head meat cutter at the Zanesville store. He was a member of the Dresden United Methodist Church and was active in the Kids Hope program. He was currently a member of the Tri-Valley Board of Education and was recently re-elected to the post. Russell enjoyed sports and was a former basketball coach and an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cincinnati Bengals and most especially, the Tri-Valley Scotties. He also loved attending all of his grandchildren's sporting activities.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Susan K. (Roberts) Wagner whom he married July 8, 1977; a daughter, Aimee (Jimmy Newman) Wagner Ross of Frazeysburg; four grandchildren, Bree Ross, Kurt Ross, Beau Newman and Lauren Newman; his sister in-law, Peggy (Larry) Cullins of Nashport; his brother in-law, Jerry (Jean) Roberts of Zanesville and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his faithful pet cat, "Daryl".
Russell was preceded in death by a daughter, Angie Lee Wagner, who died October 7, 1995 and a son, Kurt Bryan Wagner, who died September 24, 1996.
Calling hour will be 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Dresden United Methodist Church 1014 Main Street with the Rev. Carl Shaffer and Mr. Bruce Kurtz officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
