James Russell "Russ" Walton, 86, of Dresden, died Tuesday afternoon March 29, 2011 at the Heath Nursing Care Center where he had been a patient one year.
Mr. Walton was born in the state of Kentucky on May 22, 1924, he was a son of the late Frank and Bertha Mae (Todd) Walton. A 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School, he enlisted in the US Army after graduation and served in the European Theatre as a staff sergeant and was a bronze star recipient. Proud of his country, he was active in the Charles M. Mitchell Post #399 American Legion and was a past commander. Mr. Walton enjoyed playing pool and won many tournaments using his skill. He liked to fish and enjoyed water skiing and square dancing at the old Trinway mansion. He retired from the Paul Construction Co. in Zanesville where he was a construction superintendent.
Surviving are his children, James (Missy) Walton of Dresden, Debra (Brent) Lovensheimer of Nashport, Andrew Walton of Columbus, Todd (Beth) Walton of Mt. Perry; his twin sister, Elizabeth Boetcher of Titusville, FL; grandchildren, Mindi McGlade, Michele Walton, Chad (Pam) Walton, Tessa Walton, Jami Walton, Rachelle Kneisley, Kiearra Bowman, Kacie Lovensheimer (David) Bell, Jessica Walton, Amanda Walton; 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther (Clark) Walton in October 1988; a son, Russell F. Walton of San Francisco in June 2010 and a brother, Dwight Walton in November 1991.
Calling hours will begin with a Wake Service at 5PM and conclude at 8PM Friday April 1, 2011 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11AM with Father Jack Maynard celebrant.
