Obituary

A funeral service for Rupert E. Boothe, 90 of Newark will be held Saturday July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street with Chris Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Frazeysburg Cemetery.

Mr. Boothe passed on Sunday July 16, 2023 at Flint Ridge Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center. He was born February 24, 1933 in Rainelle, WVA to Lloyd and Maggie (Carr) Boothe.

Rupert retired in 1993 with 33 years of service with Western Electric. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club and Dresden Baptist Church. Activities included collecting clocks, playing the organ, an avid OSU Buckeye fan and spending time with his family.

He was known as husband, father, grandpa, grandpa great, great-great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He was referred to as ornery, sweet, funny & smart man. He loved to make everyone laugh with his quick wit. If you ask him "How are you?" he would quip either "If I was any better there'd be two of me" or "Never felt better and had less in my life." Reaction to him was priceless. He was a family man, but was quick to admit, "Some people raise the dumbest kids." While he would say "Getting old isn't for sissies." He met his personal goal of celebrating his 90th birthday. He will be greatly missed by all of the "dumbest kids" that he was so proud to call his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Eddie) Collier; daughter-in-law, Debbie Boothe; grandchildren, Tina (Dewayne) Proffit, Chandra (Patrick) Burns, Rachel (Jeff) Floyd, David McCain, Luke (Malissa) Clark, Yvonne (Jeremy) Young, Rebecca Pelletier, Joetta (Roger) Sheperd, Andrew (Crystal) Spray; 24 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Joetta L. (Boone) Boothe; children, Darlene Baker, Rodney Boothe; nine sisters and brothers.

A visitation will be observed Friday July 21, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Newark Chapel – Vensil & Chute Funeral Home and Saturday one hour prior to the services.

The family request memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Ohio, Philanthropic Development, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
