FRAZEYSBURG – Roy W. Preston, 62, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Monday afternoon, August 15, 2011 in the emergency room of Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio.
Born July 12, 1949 in Zanesville he was the son of the late George J. Preston and Mary Catherine (Fogle) Preston of Frazeysburg. Roy was a 1967 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and he retired in 2005 from A. K. Steel of Zanesville where he worked in the mechanical maintenance department. Since his retirement he was employed by the Jackson Township Trustees as a supervisor over cemetery care and maintenance. An active member of the Frazeysburg Volunteer Fire Department since the age of 18, he was currently serving as trustee and was a former Fire Chief. He was a member of the "chain gang" at Tri-Valley High School working the sidelines at the home football games. He also volunteered at "The Works" history, art and technology museum in Newark, Ohio.
Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife of 37 years, Frances E. (Garven) Preston whom he married March 16, 1974; a daughter Rori Preston and her fiancé, Eric Leath both of Newark; one brother, George A. (Nanette) Preston of Ventura, California; three sisters, Cheryl (Steve) Trego, Teresa McDaniel and Karen Hinkle, all of Frazeysburg and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
