FRAZEYSBURG â?? Roy A. Paxton, 85, of Zanesville, Ohio, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2010 at the Cedar Hill Care Center in Zanesville.
Born March 15, 1925 in Zanesville, he was the son of the late Bert R. and Teresa (Dean) Paxton. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy and he retired in 1987 from White Farm Machinery of Columbus. He was a former member of St. James the Less Catholic Church and recently attended St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church at Mattingly Settlement in Nashport. Mr. Paxton was a former member of Blendon Grange in Franklin County, Richvale Grange in Muskingum County, Franklin County Pomona Grange and he was a past deputy with the Ohio State Grange. An avid bowler, he bowled in several leagues at the Palace and Sequoia bowling alleys.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise M. (Vensil) Paxton, whom he married June 22, 1946 and who died May 17, 1996; two brothers, Ralph and Joseph Paxton and a sister, Ruth Troutt.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8pm Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street, Frazeysburg, Ohio with Christian Wake services at 8pm.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, March 27, 2010 at St. Maryâ??s Catholic Church at the Mattingly Settlement in Nashport with the Rev. Father Jack Maynard as celebrant. Burial will be in Mattingly Settlement Cemetery.
