NEWARK: A funeral service for Roy Jeffrey Holmes, 64 of Newark will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will be in Perryton Cemetery.

Mr. Holmes passed away Sunday evening April 18, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 7, 1945 in Newark to the late Cary and Geneva (Dillon) Holmes. He had worked for Tamarack Farms Dairy. He was formerly a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyeâ??s fan.

Survivors include his wife of over 46 years, Nancy (Shryock) Holmes, whom he married June 29, 1963; daughters, Jackie (Alex) Simon of Frazeysburg, Jennifer Frank of Springhill, TN, and Jodi Holmes of Newark; a son, Jay â??Scottâ? Holmes of Newark; grandchildren, Jesse Holmes, Jordan Long, Ashlie Kelley, Evander Saunders, Abbie Holmes, Laikin Frank, Christopher Binckley, Emalee Woodruff, Dereck Woodruff, Daryl Wilson, Alisha Simon, Alex Simon, Jr., Mariah Simon, and Madison Simon; great-grandchildren, Lailah Saunders and Liahna Saunders; sisters, Cindy Burgess, and Sondra (Robert) Dunfee; brothers, Ted (JoAnne) Holmes, Cecil Holmes, Robert (Mary Lou) Holmes, and Rex Holmes.

In addition to his parents Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey A. Holmes and a granddaughter, Jessica Wilson.

Friends and family may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark.
