A funeral service for Rose Ann Harris, 100 of Newark will be held Wednesday February 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris died Saturday February 5, 2011 at her home. She was born March 4, 1910 in Newark, Ohio to the late James Edward and Rosa Florence (Hoffer) Whyde.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 764 of Hanover.
She is survived by three sons, James R. (Mildred L.) Harris of Newark, Byron L. (Linda S.) Harris of Newark, Earl K.M. (Dagmar "Dosha") Harris of Newark; two sisters, Clarabelle North of Newark, Nellie Bailey of Newark; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Harris, November, 22 1984; daughters, Chloe Custer, Heather K. Harris; sister, Lucy Bennett; brothers, John Whyde, Earl Whyde, Clarence Whyde and Robert Whyde.
Calling hours will be observed Tuesday February 8, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
