FRAZEYSBURG â?? Roger Dean Finnell, 72, of Nashport, Ohio died Monday evening, October 4, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
Born November 3, 1937 in Jackson Township of Coshocton County, Ohio he was a son of the late William J. and Ruth I. (Smith) Finnell. Mr. Finnell retired in 2000 after 24 years of service as a master mechanic with Mid-Atlantic Canners of Zanesville. Mr. Finnell was an original organizer and the first president of the Steel Workers Union Local #8784 of Zanesville. Also, for many years he was a Biddy League baseball coach in the area.
Surviving is four sons, Gregory (Emigrace) Finnell, Rodney Finnell, Jeffrey Finnell and Douglas (Sharon) Finnell all of Nashport; one daughter, Joni (Eric) Thompson of Hebron, Ohio; two brothers, Rolland Finnell of Dayton, Ohio and Donald (Elizabeth) Finnell of Johnstown, Ohio; a sister in-law, Polly Finnell; five grandchildren, Braden (Heather) Finnell, Rickell Hornfeck, Abbie Finnell, Kyle Finnell and Cody Finnell; five great grandchildren, Jace Finnell, Cooper Hornfeck, Mason Hornfeck, Quinn Hornfeck and Elliannah Gordin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Louise (Neff) Finnell whom he married November 24, 1956 and who died August 2, 2010; a son, Timothy Finnell; six brothers, Bob, Charles, William, Wayne, James Gail and Larry Finnell; two sisters, Betty Hook and Shirley Bickle; four sisters in-law, Peggy, Juanita, Edith and Clara Finnell; and one brother in-law, Allen Hook.
Calling hours will be from Noon until service time, which will be 1:30pm Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
