Obituary
Robert D. Thomas, 78, of Norwich, Ohio died Thursday morning, March 9, 2017 at Genesis Hospice in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born November 19, 1938 in Madison Township of Muskingum County, he was a son of the late Walter G. and Phyllis C. (Poorman) Thomas and was a 1956 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. Mr. Thomas attended The Ohio State University and received his Bachelor's degree in agriculture. Following college he proudly served our country in the U. S. Army from 1961 to 1963. He worked as a farm manager for the State of Ohio, retiring after 28 years of service. Later he worked for Lumi-Lite Candle Company for several years. Robert was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a very avid Ohio State fan and he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and caring for his chickens and selling eggs.
Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 53 years, B. Joanne (Knicely) Thomas whom he married June 28, 1964; one son, William D. Thomas of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Carmen Ann (Charles) Morris of Westerville, Ohio and Kimberly Jo (Michael) Wagner of Woodsfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Caleb and Colton Morris, Cheyenne and Caden Wagner; one sister, Rita Conn of Pataskala, Ohio; a sister in-law, Mary Thomas of Clayton, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Thomas; a sister Betty Dearstine and two brothers in-law, Donald Dearstine and Arthur Conn.
The Thomas family wishes to give a very special thank you to the staff of Genesis Hospital 4th Floor, North and to the staff of Genesis Morrison House for their loving care and support during Robert's stay.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, March 13, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Thomas and Pastor Carolyn Smith officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery near Dresden.
