Obituary

Robert ("Bob") T. McBride, 90, of Dresden, Ohio passed away peacefully at Genesis Hospital on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He was born on May 2, 1931 in Dresden to the late William and Margaret McBride. A 1949 graduate of Jefferson High School, he attended Ohio University for a short time in the hopes of becoming a National Park Ranger. However, he married his wife of seventy years, settled in Dresden, and had four children. Taking over the farm from his father-in-law, C.R. Cochran, Bob became a farmer by trade and worked in his garden even into his later years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret "Peg" (Cochran) McBride whom he married on July 14, 1951. In addition, he leaves behind a daughter, Lynn (Jerry) Schlaegel of Urbana, Ohio, and their son Chris (Annie) Schlaegel. His beloved granddaughter, Megan Schlaegel, died on Thanksgiving day in 2007. He is additionally survived by a son, Craig (Trudy) McBride of Broomfield, Colorado, and their three children: Ryan (Jackie) McBride, Bobby (Lauren) McBride, and Lindsay (Geoff) McFarlane;  a daughter, Lori (Craig) Hudson of Dresden, Ohio, and their three boys: Cole (Taylor) Hudson, Wes Hudson, and Graham Hudson. Bob was predeceased by his son, Tom (Mary, survivor) McBride of Thornton, Colorado, but is survived by Tom's two boys: Chase (Chelsea) McBride of Colorado and Tyler (Kael) McBride of Utah. A brother, Donald (Marsha) McBride, who visited often and loved to tell hunting stories, also survives. Bob was blessed with nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. It is with great peace and assurance to know that Bob has been "reunited with his people" and is now spending eternity with Tom, Megan, his sister, Mary Arnold, his parents, his brother, Bill (Jean, survivor) McBride, and a host of others who have already passed from this life.

It is said that "grandchildren are the crown of the aged," and this was certainly true for Bob McBride. Whether it was summers in Myrtle Beach, state wrestling championships, no-hitter baseball games, high school football games, Denver Bronco cheerleaders, graduating from the Air Force Academy, graduation from Notre Dame or Army boot camp, Bob was there. It is also said that "a good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children," and his legacy was the love, the protection, and the guidance of a simple farmer with a red handkerchief. Bob sought the best for his family, and he was a blessing to our lives. Full of stories and wit, Bob never met a stranger.

Bob's intentions were honored, and his body was donated to the Ohio State University Body Donation Program.

Bob was a life-time member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Dresden.  A rosary service will be held on Sunday, February 27 at 6:00 pm and a Funeral Mass will be Monday, February 28 at 9:00 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 405 Chestnut Street, Dresden.  His ashes will be interred in Dresden Cemetery at a later date.
