Robert W. Swingle, 86, of Hanover, Ohio died Monday morning, October 12, 2015 at his home.
Born December 21, 1928 in Zanesville, Ohio he was a son of the late Lawrence and Alice (Bell) Swingle and was a 1946 graduate of Nashport High School. He proudly served our country during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the 24th Infantry Division of the U. S. Army. Mr. Swingle retired after 40 years of service at Continental Can Company in Newark and later worked for Waste Management for several years. He was a member of the Hanover Presbyterian Church and was a member and Past Master of Irville Lodge #184, F. & A. M. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and boating and was Commodore of the Owens-Corning Boat Club.
Surviving is one son, Tim (Leslie) Swingle of Hanover; two daughters, Bobbi (Tom) McCollough of Pickerington, Ohio and Tammy Adkins of Newark; four grandchildren, Ryan and Trent McCollough, Kaylee (Nate) Marietta and Kyle Clawson; one great grandchild, Jaxon Marietta; a brother, Theodore P. (Helen) Swingle of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary K. "Katie" (Elder) Swingle whom he married July 3, 1948 and who died August 8, 2011 and a brother, Kenneth Swingle.
Calling hours will be from 11am to 1pm on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Irville Lodge #184 will conduct Masonic services at 10:30am Friday at the funeral home prior to the calling hours.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Harroff officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
