A private family funeral service will be held for Robert L. Slatzer, 88 of Newark with Pastor Gary Dheel officiating. Burial will be in the New Straitsville Cemetery.

Bob passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born January 26, 1932 in Shawnee, OH to the late Edward E. and Evelyn G. (Haynes) Slatzer.

Bob retired from Rockwell Manufacturing in 1982. He delivered flowers for Roots & Shoots Flowers for several years. Bob attended Free Will Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post # 85.  He enjoyed meeting friends in the morning for coffee at McDonald's.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sharon L. (Wright) Slatzer; a daughter, Yana (Pat) Freeman of Hanover, MI; a son, Robert A. "Bobby" Slatzer of Newark; grandchildren, Patrick D. (Beth) Freeman, II of Spring Arbor, MI, Amanda Lynn (Aaron) Allen of Baltimore, MD; great-grandchildren, Matthew Robert Freeman, Savannah Anne Freeman; special friends, Rose Cost, Mark Toothman, Bob Shannon and his canine friend, Sylvia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sabrina.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME – NEWARK CHAPEL.
