FRAZEYSBURG â?? Robert E. Pethtel, 87, of Hanover, Ohio died Monday morning, February 15, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark, Ohio.
Born December 14, 1922 in Garrison, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Ray N. and Jessie M. (Renner) Pethtel. During World War II he served in the Merchants Marines and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Mr. Pethtel was a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church and New Home Lodge, #338, F. & A. M. He was a former employee of the Roper Company of Newark and he worked for many years as an oil field worker with Waverly Oil, Pure Oil and Ludlow Oil. He later worked at Continental Can until his retirement in 1984.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Mabel V. (Strosnider) Pethtel, whom he married November 21, 1944; a daughter and son in-law, Carol and Walter Wilson of Hanover; two grandchildren, Mark E. (Elaine) Wilson of Howard, Ohio and Michelle L. (Steve) Rivers of Granville, Ohio and three great grandchildren, Mackenzie Wilson, Karoline Wilson and Wyatt Rivers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Pethtel, who died January 25, 1992; one brother and one sister.
There will be no calling hours and private funeral services will be at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery
