A private graveside service will be held for Robert L. ?Bob? Nichols, 90 of Alexandria in Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria, Ohio with Pastor Larry W. Stewart officiating. Mr. Nichols died Friday November 27, 2009 at Grant Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1919 in Alexandria to the late Edward H. and Ila V. (Brooks) Nichols. Mr. Nichols retired as a regional manager at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co where he was employed for over 40 years. He graduated in 1937 from Alexandria High School as the class Salutatorian. He attended Miami University and graduated in 1941 from The Ohio State University with a degree in Business Administration. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served in the Signal Corps in Japan. He attended OCS and was discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was a lifelong resident of Alexandria. He served 44 years on the Alexandria Library Board and was very active in their building project. He was a member of the Alexandria Museum Board. He was a 62 year member of Center Star Lodge # 11 F & AM and Aladdin Shrine of Columbus. He was active in the OSU recruitment with special attention to the Newark campus. He was active in several classes and had many friends at the Licking County YMCA. He and his brother had traveled extensively around the world and in May of 2009 they were inducted in the Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. He is survived by his brother, Fred Nichols, DVM of Alexandria; cousins, Betty Dawkins, Maxine Dumbauld, David (Terri) Brooks, John (Linda) Brooks, Patricia Price and Chester Mason. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by cousins, Jack Dawkins, Fred Dumbauld, Don Price and Marsha Mason. Masonic services will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street.
