Robert Morton Leas, 93, of Zanesville, Ohio died Wednesday evening, June 3, 2015 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville.
Born May 31, 1922 in Cass Township of Muskingum County, Ohio he was a son of the late William H. and Ethel A. (Morton) Leas. Mr. Leas was a 1941 graduate of Frazeysburg High School and was the class vice president. He was a veteran of World War II where he was an aerial engineer-gunner with the 15th Army Air Force Liberator Bombing Group in Italy. He was a member of the Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Mr. Leas retired in 1982 from Kaiser Aluminum Company in Heath, Ohio and was also a farmer with a great love for horses. He was a member of the Percheron Horse Association of America and Ohio Percheron Breeders Association. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Kathryn Anderson Leas whom he married August 20, 2004; a son, Richard (Judy) Leas of Dresden; three daughters, Patricia (Jack) Boyd and Marsha Tigner, both of Zanesville and Annette (Dan) Newcome of Nashport, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou (Stokes) Leas whom he married July 27, 1942 and who died January 19, 2004; a brother Paul E. Leas and a sister, Helen M. Thoricht.
Calling hours will be 2pm to 8pm Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, June 8, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Andy Winters officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
