Obituary

Robert R. "Bob" Lane, 80, of Dresden, Ohio was called home Tuesday morning, August 26, 2014 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born November 2, 1933 in Dresden he was a son of the late Miles and Zetta (Crozier) Lane and was a 1952 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. In his earlier years Bob worked at the Dresden Block Plant and the Bartlett Tree Company. He also worked for many years at AEP where he retired in 1993.
Bob loved his community and he faithfully served the Village of Dresden as a Council member for 26 years and as the Mayor of Dresden for 20 years and was an active member of the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church and was a very avid sports fan. He worked on the "chain gang" at Tri-Valley High School footballs games for many years and he coached Biddy League basketball and baseball. He loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events. And as many local residents can attest, he loved to sit on his front porch with his wife and wave at all the passers-by.
Surviving is his loving wife of 61 years, Joann (Mahon) Lane whom he married July 11, 1953; two daughters, Diane (Dennis) Pierce and Brenda (Larry) Hindel, both of Dresden; five grandchildren, Holly (Brandon) Thomas, Terry (Rochelle) Berry, Laura (Adam) Seward, Russell (Danielle) Hindel and Lyle Pierce; eight great grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Ernie and John Lane and three sisters, Mary Lane Church, Gladys Lane and Jean Lane Lapp.
Calling hours will be from 3pm to 9pm Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 1:30pm Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street with the Rev. Sharon Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
