Robert Stockdale I, 74, of Dresden, Ohio passed away Friday morning October 26, 2012 surrounded by those who deeply cared for him. He was born February 21, 1938 in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Roy Franklin and Anna Elizabeth Stockdale. He was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of his greatest pleasures was taking his children and grandchildren fishing and camping. There are many stories about these trips! He dearly loved going to as many of their sporting events as possible, in rain, snow and heat. Bob was a member of the North Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He graduated from Zanesville High School class of 1956. He retired from the NAPA stores in Zanesville and Dresden after 44 years. He was well known as "Stocky" to many of his customers and friends in the Dresden area.
He is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Virginia Stockdale, whom he married March 11, 1961. They had a loving, caring marriage of almost 52 years. He is also survived and deeply missed by his five children; Carolyn (Steve) Dorr, Robert (Michele) Stockdale II, Karen (Neal Webber) Noland, Michael (Vicki) Stead, Cheryl (Dave) Henderhan; 10 grandchildren Carrie, Casey, Sarah, Travis, McKenzie, Hawk, Hunter, Michael, Lance, Bryce and four great-grandchildren Sidney, Catie, Cannon and Caroline; his sister Susan Dick and brother Dave Stockdale, and many nieces and nephews
Bob wanted everyone to know how much love and support he received from his children, grandchildren, sister Susan, family and friends. It meant a great deal to him.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8pm Monday October 29, 2012 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday October 30, 2012 at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be William Orosz. Burial will be at Dresden Cemetery.
