A funeral service for Robert D. Ellis, 88 of Newark will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 30, 2017 in the sanctuary of Northside Church of Christ, 4427 Marion Road NE, Newark with Frank Austin officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Ellis died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 14, 1928 in Newark to John David and Mary Margaret (Gutridge) Ellis.

Mr. Ellis was retired May 31, 1987 as Assistant Fire Chief with 42 years of service at Owens Corning Fiberglas. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a Lifetime member and assisted with many of the fish fry's at the Hanover American Legion Post # 764. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ, Utica Friendly Seniors, Licking Valley Seniors and GMP Local # 244. He also had been the manager at the Valley Drive-In. He was a former security guard for Lakeland, Florida Holiday Inn and Argenbright Security Co.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen L. (Wright) Ellis; children, Tina (Michael) Flett of Fenton, MO, Emery Ellis of Newark; two grandsons, Alex Flett, Andy Flett; sisters, Janet Jordan of Granville, Rosemary (Roland) Decker of Newark, Suzanne Rauch of Lancaster, Marlene Winters of Newark; sisters-in-laws, Wilma Gray, Mary Lou Ellis of Newark; brothers-in-laws, Ralph "Jerry" Wright of Etna, Terry Wright of Newark; several nieces, nephews including special niece/daughter, Connie Wright.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dick Ellis; sisters-in-laws, Beatrice (Ed) Stickle, Rachel Holtz, Bertie (Bob) Hash; brothers-in-law, Robert Rauch and Delbert Wright.

Calling hours will be observed at the Northside Church of Christ, 4427 Marion Road, NE, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday September 29, 2017.
