A graveside funeral service for Robert L. Courson, 71 of Newark will be held at Wilson Cemetery Wednesday September 8, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Ray Sunkle officiating.Mr. Courson died Saturday September 4, 2004 at his residence. He was born June 10, 1933 in Newark, Ohio to the late William Courson and Myrtle (Brunner) Courson Downs.Mr. Courson had served as Altamont, Ill. Police Chief, formerly employed at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. and repaired lawn mowers and small motors at his nephew?s, Mark (Jane) Downs, garage.He loved fishing, was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Local # 341 USWA.He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna M. Heller; sons, Rodney Courson of Newark, Don (Kathy) Shively of Buckeye Lake; daughter, Dee (Mark) Spaulding of Pataskala; sisters, Dorothy Monroe of Newark, Esther (John) Hankinson of Gun Barrel City, Texas; brothers, Eyler ?Ike? (Mary) Downs, Marion Downs, Cecil (Terry) Downs, Herb Downs all of Newark; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer, Mindy; several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by, three sisters, Gladys Angeletti, Florence Devor, Betty Newlon; two brothers, Bill Courson and Arthur Downs.Calling hours will be observed Wednesday September 8, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street Newark.
