Robert Carroll "Bump" Bumpus, 82, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville, Ohio.

Born June 12, 1934 in Bladensburg, Ohio he was a son of the late Carl R. and Hattie M. (Dugan) Bumpus and was a 1952 graduate of Fredericktown High School. Because of his many years of service to the community, he was declared an honorary graduate of Frazeysburg High School by the Alumni Association. He has been a member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church for over 50 years and has been a trustee and chairman of the Finance and Stewardship committee at the church. He is a member and past president of the Frazeysburg Lion Club where he earned their highest award, the Melvin Jones Award. He is also a 61 year member and Past Master of Frazeysburg Lodge #490, F. & A. M. and the Frazeysburg Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Bumpus has been a very active member of the Frazeysburg community and was always willing to serve. He helped form the Little League program in Frazeysburg and he coached baseball and intermediate basketball in Frazeysburg School for many years. He was also on the committee to build the Little League Park for boys and girls. Mr. Bumpus served as Master of Ceremonies for the Frazeysburg Homecoming for 11 years and was the Charter President of the Frazeysburg Revitalization Association, which resulted in the restoration of the Township Hall and the building of the community swimming pool.

In 1996 he retired after 42 years of service from Buckeye Pipe Line/Ohio Oil Gathering/Clearfield Energy where he worked in field operations for the transportation of oil and gas.

Above all things, his family was most important. His family was the Times Recorder Family of the Year in 1972 and he was a member of the Legacy of Fatherhood Class of 2017.

Surviving is his wife of over 63 years, Joanne (Stokes) Bumpus whom he married October 18, 1953; one son, Bradley Alan (Kimberly) Bumpus of Dresden; two daughters, Roberta Lyn "Bobbi" (James) Lepi of Dresden and Bonnie Jo (Loren Mautz) Taylor of Duncan Falls, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley Harrier) Taylor, Charles (Noelle) Taylor, Brodie (Sherrie) Lepi, Kyle (Dena Towning) Lepi, Hunter (Lindsay Clifford) Lepi, Kyrie Bumpus and Keegan Bumpus; one great grandchild, Benjamin Taylor and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Bettie L. Nethers.

Calling hours will be 3pm to 8pm Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Frazeysburg Lodge # 490 will conduct Masonic services at 8pm or following calling hours.

Calling hours will also be for one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be 11:00am Friday, June 2, 2017 at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Belt officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
