Obituary

A funeral service Robert K. Baker, 83 of Newark will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday April 7, 2009 at the Family of Faith Community Church, 975 Mt. Vernon Road, Newark with Pastor Curtis Martin and Associate Pastor Gary LaRue officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Baker died April 3, 2009 at the Heath Nursing Center. He was born May 24, 1925 in Newark to the late Clella E. and Agnes (Eckert) Baker. Bob retired in 1988 from Motorola, Inc. after 16 years as a supervisor in Cleveland. He had been employed 12 years with his brother at Baker TV & Appliance. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post # 85. He was a member of Crusaders Lodge # 720 F&AM, Aladdin Shrine and a member of UCT. He had also served as an auxiliary Newark Police Officer. He had served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Oahu 1943-1944 and the USS Yosemite in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. He was an elder at the Family of Faith Community Church from 1992-2002 and an honorary elder for the past 7 years. Bob leaves a loving family and many friends. He was a kind thoughtful person that was always ready to help who ever and whenever he could and always had a smile for you. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 20 years, Georgianna (Cochran) Branscome Baker, whom he married December 2, 1988 and will always be her special gift from God; other survivors include children, Pamela (Ross) Shannon of Newark, Barbara (Greg) Chapman of Newark, Kay Baker (Jerry) Der of Versailles, KY., Robert E. (Sylvia) Baker of Thornville, Jeffrey (Sheila) Franz of Newark, Steven S. Baker of Utica, Richard P. (Esther) Branscome of Lancaster, Marilyn S. (Charles) Booze of Millersport, David V. Branscome of Newark, James R. Branscome of Newark, Lori J. (Kenneth) Ray of Granville; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; special children we acquired together, Gary & Jacqueline LaRue and children Elijah and Keirstin; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel R. (Clemens) Baker in 1987 and a brother Richard Baker in 1982. Calling hours will be observed 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Newark Chapel Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
