A celebration of life service for Richard E. Johnson, 74 of Newark will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday July 16, 2010 at Northside Church of Christ, 4588 Marion Road NE with Bruce Hissong officiating. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Spring Grove Cemetery prior to the services at the church.
Mr. Johnson died Sunday July 4, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born April 30, 1936 in Newark, Ohio to the late John Vernon and Lillian Marie (Hilleary) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was employed as a truck driver for Markle Transport. He was the former co-owner of M& D Rentals. He had served in the U. S. Army and attended Northside Church of Christ. He enjoyed collecting items.
Survivors include his children, Crystal (Trey) Glenn of Newark, Kim DeLawder, Karen Johnson, Carla Johnson, Amy Johnson, Doug Johnson, Doug Baumgardner; grandchildren, Destiny Meek, Desiree Meek, Leeyah Johnson, Chaziel Spencer, Daylin Felix, Dustin Johnson, Chase Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Brittney Baumgardner, Breanne Baumgardner, Elizabeth Baumgardner, Tosha McCrary, Larry McCrary, D.J. Barr; sister, Jean Ann Johnson of Newark, sister-in-law Joann Johnson, daughter-in-law, Debbie Barr, best friends, Charlie and Brenda Markle; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (Harrington) Johnson; son, Dale Barr; daughter, Yvonne Johnson; brother, Vernon Johnson.
