Richard "Dick" E. Ugie

Richard E. Ugie, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 3, 2026 after a lengthy illness.

He was born February 17th, 1938, in Adams Mills to the late Leota (Bowman) Stagmyer and James Ugie. Instrumental in his life was his late stepfather, Floyd Stagmyer.

Dick, the name he is fondly remembered by, married Nancy C. Hamby in 1960. He soon left to serve in the Air Force. Upon his return home, he and Nancy started a family and created their journey through life together.

He retired from AK Steel, as it was named back in the day, but didn’t sit idle. He continued his carpentry skills to build, rebuild, remodel and more for many clients. Dick’s carpentry talent was passed on to his son, and son in law and continues on in the hands of his lineage.

An avid golfer, and quite good at the sport, he and his golfing buddies spent a lot of time on the greens of many courses. Another talent he passed on to many in the family.

Dick is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter Lesha (Robin) Barnhart; his son Richard “Doug” (Judy) Ugie; his grandchildren, Kristopher (Aly) Barnhart, Whitney Barnhart; bonus grandchild, Joshua (Kelly) Ward and Nick (Angie) Barnhart; great grandchildren, Destiny Barnhart, Cyrus Barnhart, and Rella Vincent Ugie; bonus great grandchildren, Aaron (Ellivea) Ward, Emma (Logan) Mozena, Annie Ward, Sophia Vansickle, Ian Vansickle, Shay Barnhart, Ben and Pam Barnhart; great, great grandson, Everett James “EJ” Barnhart; his sister, Elaine (Rodney) Larr; brother, John (Barb) Stagmyer; and many extended family also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather; his mother and father-in-law, Carl and Erma Hamby; his brother, Ralph Stagmyer and his grandson, Taylor Ugie.
