Obituary

A funeral service for Richard Kenneth "Dick" Gwin, 83 of Frazeysburg will be held Wednesday July 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Minister Don Allen officiating. Burial will be at Wilson Cemetery.

Mr. Gwin died Saturday July 15, 2017 at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville, OH. He was born April 18, 1934 in New Castle, PA to the late J. Guy and Leah Fern (McMurray) Gwin.

Mr. Gwin moved to the area in 1962 following graduation from Youngstown University to begin a 31 year career as an engineer at the Newark Air Force Base, retiring in 1993. He served two years in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He attended the Hanover Presbyterian Church. He loved being outdoors, farming, gardening and splitting wood. He was a loyal fan to the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed the retirees meetings at TJ's. His favorite vehicles were John Deere tractors and Chrysler products. He valued his friendship with his canine companions.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louella C. (Dunlap) Gwin, whom he married July 15, 1967; children, Russell Lee Gwin of Frazeysburg, Julia Kay (Mark) Falvo of Washington, PA, John Richard (Elizabeth) Gwin of Pataskala; grandchildren, Caleb Falvo, Leah Falvo; brothers, Norman (Audriene) Gwin of Newark, Larry (Ruth) Gwin of Westerville; several nieces, nephews; many close friends and his dog, Zeus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley (Joseph) Jameson.

Calling hours will be observed Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME 1850 West Main Street, Newark.

The family requests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
